I love building web things

Whether it's at work, at a hack event or for just fun, I love to build technology physical or virtual that uses the big www.

I have developed in most software languages and believe in choosing the right tool for the right job.

Current projects

Vancouver, Canada

I have just re-located to Vancouver, Canada and am looking for projects to work on. If you want a creative, friendly hands-on technologist to help in what you're working on get in touch.

Cookmarkit

One christmas I had forgotten the recipes me and my wife used 2 years ago. So we built a website so that we could better share and store our recipes on the web in one place. We built in a lean way, constantly deploying and changing to better improve our customer experience. We opened it up for others and have found our friends love using it too.

RSS Hero

Very much in it's infancy, a private alpha that has an exciting vision and interesting challenges

Previous projects

GoFreeRange

An awesome team of developers who build awesome things for the web. Recently they've built Hashblue for O2, helped out Mubi to deliver online films and a fun game with the London transport network, Chromaroma.
If you want to work with them, get in touch, they are fun and would love to have a chat about what you want.

TwitterFeed

Twitterfeed had to scale their infrastructure to support 500k rss feeds (now at 3.5m). I led the rebuilding of the architecture to use Ruby, RabbitMQ, MongoDB and Pubsubhubbub for realtime feeds. This reduced the EC2 infrastructure by almost 50% and easily allowed horizontal scaling of the demanding services.

FutureGov

I have previously worked on a number of projects with the lovely people at FutureGov. We pushed the agenda of open data and getting local government to build things in lean and agile ways. Built FutureGovNetwork, helped Enabled By Design get off the ground and worked with the RSA on their digital strategy.

JobsGoPublic

Ran day-to-day technical operations as their CTO. We performed a large transition to a Ruby on Rails application for over 70% of public sector customers, over 1.3m visitors a month.

HopHive

Co-Founded a hyperlocal news/social aggregation startup. I built this from the ground up, learnt to pitch, bootstrap, write funding documents, find partners and really consider what users want how to make money.

BSc Computer Science with Distributed Systems & Networks

I received a degrees at Southampton University for Computer Science. I chose to focus on networks and distributed systems because of the large uptake with the internet and mobile technologies.

I made this too

This site is built with toto, an awesome lightweight ruby blog. This is valid html5
